Balochistan [Pakistan] May 17 (ANI): A fresh wave of alleged enforced disappearances has once again drawn attention to Pakistan's security operations in Balochistan, after four individuals, including a teenage student, a fisherman, a Levies official and a government employee, were reportedly taken into custody by state forces from different districts of the province, as reported by The Balochistan Post.
According to The Balochistan Post, the detentions occurred in Washuk, Gwadar and Dera Bugti districts over the past several days, with families claiming that Pakistani military and counter-terrorism personnel carried out raids before moving the men to undisclosed locations. In Washuk district, a 17-year-old matric student and son of Haji Ataullah, was allegedly detained during a raid on his family home in the Naag area on May 13.
Relatives said officials linked to Military Intelligence and the Pakistan Army arrived at the residence in the afternoon and took the teenager away without presenting any warrant or explanation. Since then, the family says they have received no information regarding his whereabouts. Another reported disappearance took place in the coastal Gwadar district. Residents of the Jiwni Panwan area said Yahya Baloch, an 18-year-old fisherman and son of Ameer Bakhsh, was picked up from his home during a late-night operation on May 11. Family members said that he has remained missing ever since.
In Dera Bugti's Sui tehsil, two more individuals were reportedly detained by personnel of Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department. The missing men were identified as Siraj, a member of the Levies force, and Gul Mohammad Bugti, an employee of the Education Department working as a watchman, as highlighted by The Balochistan Post.
Amid the growing concerns, one previously missing individual reportedly returned home. Dr Zaheer, a resident of Hoshab in Kech district, was released in Quetta a day after his alleged disappearance on May 11, according to his family, as reported by The Balochistan Post. (ANI)
