Hamilton [New Zealand], April 2 (ANI): New Zealand secured the series against Pakistan with an emphatic 84-run victory in Hamilton on Wednesday. The Kiwis will head to Mount Maunganui for the final ODI on Saturday, aiming for a clean sweep.
New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell praised his team's resilience and Mitchell Hay's impressive batting performance. He attributed the success of new players to the strong domestic setup that allows players to express themselves.
'The way we fought through the innings was great. We started well, but lost a few wickets and then they way Mitch batted was brilliant. We had a photo of the team before the game, and we looked through how many matches they have played. It is a testament to the team, we just allow them to express themselves.' Michael Bracewell said in the post-match presentation.
He highlights Ben Sears' dedication and hard work, emphasizing his comeback after facing injuries. Bracewell emphasizes the team's desire to maintain their high standards and finish the summer strong.
'There is no secret for what allows the new players to come in and perform straightaway. The domestic setup is amazing and allows us to express ourselves internationally. It has been a great summer, and we have played some great cricket. We don't want to sell ourselves short now and want to keep doing the simple things well, end on a high. (On Ben Sears) He's done exceptionally; he's put in a lot of work off the field to prepare himself. He's suffered many injuries in his short career, but glad to see him get the rewards for his hard work today,' Bracewell added.
The hero of the second innings for them was Ben Sears, who delivered a stunning performance, claiming a five-wicket haul in just his third ODI. After going wicketless in his first two games, Sears emerged as the standout bowler, leading New Zealand to victory with figures of 5/59.
Mitchell Hay played a sensational knock, ensuring New Zealand reached a competitive total of 292/8. He remained unbeaten on 99 off 78 balls, hitting seven boundaries and seven sixes. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award. (ANI)
