Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff has reportedly already arrived in Moscow to discuss the results of US-Ukraine negotiations in Saudi Arabia
Russia and the US are likely to hold bilateral talks later on Thursday to discuss the results of the American meeting with Ukrainian representatives in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has announced. US special envoy Steve Witkoff has reportedly already landed in Moscow.
On Tuesday, representatives from Kiev and Washington met in Jeddah to discuss ways to resolve the Ukraine conflict. After nearly 9.5 hours, both sides released a joint statement in which Kiev agreed to a 30-day ceasefire while the US announced the resumption of military aid and information sharing with Ukraine.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Zakharova said that Moscow had closely examined the results of the talks and the relevant statements but has yet to receive a formal ceasefire proposal. However, she stressed that Russia is open to discussing the initiative at a meeting with US representatives, which she said could happen very soon.
On Wednesday, the Kremlin also declined to comment on the US-Ukraine meeting and the subsequent ceasefire proposal, stating that it is waiting to be formally briefed on the initiative by Washington.
Meanwhile, a number of media outlets reported on Thursday that US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff had already arrived in Moscow to hold discussions with the Russian side.
Moscow has previously opposed any temporary truce in the Ukraine conflict, arguing that Kiev will simply use it to rearm and continue fighting. Russian President Vladimir Putin has insisted that a resolution to the conflict must address the root causes in order to establish a long-lasting peace.
