New Delhi [India], September 10 (ANI): Former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Wednesday called recent social media posts by US President Donald Trump on India-US trade talks 'positive', stressing that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump have great relations.
Shringla said tensions can be resolved and highlighted the strong relationship between PM Modi and US President Trump, which he believes is helping strengthen bilateral ties.
Speaking to ANI, Shringla said, 'We consider the US President's last two posts as positive. We can find a solution to the tensions between the countries... Under PM Modi's leadership, our (India's) relationship is great with everyone internationally, especially with the US... PM Modi and US President Trump have great relations and a strong connection. This is putting a positive impact on our bilateral ties and we should take this forward...'
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi, earlier today, said ongoing trade negotiations between India and the United States would help 'unlock the limitless potential' of the bilateral partnership, after US President Donald Trump called for addressing 'trade barriers' between the two nations.
In a post on X, PM Modi described New Delhi and Washington as 'natural partners' and said he was confident about the progress of the negotiations. The PM also expressed his willingness to speak to Trump.
'India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,' PM Modi wrote on X on Wednesday, which was reposted by Trump.
Trump also expressed confidence in reaching a 'successful conclusion' and looked forward to speaking with PM Modi in the upcoming weeks.
His remark comes days after he called the India-US ties a 'very special relationship' and affirmed that he and PM Modi would always be friends, asserting that there is 'nothing to worry about'.
New Delhi is facing global uncertainties due to heightened economic tensions following the US imposition of a 50 per cent tariff on Indian imports, including an additional 25 per cent due to its purchase of Russian crude oil, which, according to Washington, fuels Moscow's efforts in its conflict with Ukraine.
