It's the end of the year and chances are, those resolutions about healthy eating that started at the beginning of 2022 have gone out of the window and the kids are back on the chicken nuggets and junk food.
Of course, we're nearly in 2023 and it's time to start that health kick again, and there are plenty of superfoods you can consider to sneak into your family meals. You never know, the kids may even love it!
So, what are we thinking?
Tofu is one of the best superfoods you can add to a meal, but of course it is very much one of those foods that people like to avoid too. For no real reason. The health benefits are huge, so much so that many health professionals advise patients to add it to their diet in order to start living more healthily. It's good for digestion, while at a rehab centre you'll find experts recommending it for reducing cravings.
Of course, that's not why we're suggesting it, but the health benefits are clear to see. What's more, it's so versatile. You can put it in almost anything from sandwiches to pasta, curries to Chinese meals, it's all about using it as a vehicle for flavour. Get it right, and your kids will absolutely love it.
For many kids, greens are the enemy, but they are so important to a diet and dark green leafy vegetables are high in a whole range of nutrients from zinc to calcium, iron, magnesium and vitamin C.
Like tofu, you can add them to a range of dishes, and you'd be surprised just how sneaky you can by adding the likes of spinach, kale, collard greens and turnip greens to a dish.
Legumes have long been a superfood as they are rich in a number of vitamins, protein and fibre. Food such as lentils, peas, peanuts and beans are great for adding to dishes and elevating them, or even replacing certain foods such as rice for. Switch up rice in a chilli con carne for lentils, it's better for you and in our opinion, really elevates the dish too.
There are plenty of other dishes you can make the switch for too, while it could also be as simple as adding a side of peas to a normal dish you would make for the family.
