YANGON, Myanmar - Authorities in Myanmar have detained a Japanese man for filming a protest in Yangon, the country's largest city, according to the Jiji news agency, citing Japanese government officials.
The report did not name the man but stated that he was in his twenties and that the Japanese embassy in Myanmar had requested his release.
According to local media reports, the man was detained in the South Dagon area of Yangon on Saturday along with two others during a protest against the recent execution of four activists by military authorities.
During a media crackdown following the military coup, Japanese man Yuki Kitazumi was arrested and charged with spreading false news in Myanmar last year. He was later granted permission to leave Myanmar and return to Japan.
