DUBLIN, Ireland: Ireland could intervene to bring down the cost of fuel if prices rise too high, according to Tanaiste Leo Varadkar.
Noting that no plans for intervening currently exist, Varadkar said he could not "definitively rule out" any actions.
Still, if a "dramatic escalation" in fuel prices occurred in Ireland, the Government would have to intervene, he told RTE this week.
Varadkar also said that the government was focused on the price of fuel, and not the country's supplies of fuel.
The Tnaiste added that there is a 90-day fuel reserve to provide a cushion.
At the same time, Varadkar said planning is now underway on the budget and it will include measures to assist the public and work to prevent Ireland from entering a recession.
