DUBLIN, Ireland - The Minister for Foreign Affairs will address the matter of Russia conducting military drills in Irish waters with Yury Filatov, the Russian Ambassador to Ireland.
Simon Coveney "is not happy with this and will raise it with the Ambassador," Minister for State Patrick O'Donovan told RTEs The Week in Politics.
He stated that it would also be discussed at a summit of European leaders.
According to the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), civilian aircraft will be diverted away from a region off the coast of Cork, where Russia is scheduled to conduct a navy artillery practice in early February.
According to the IAA, the Russian military drill will occur in international waters 240 kilometers off Ireland's southwest coast but within Ireland's exclusive economic zone.
The IAA stated that the Russian navy artillery test would not endanger the safety of Irish airspace.
