MADRID, Spain: Spanish police have announced that they have arrested smugglers who transported drugs from Morocco to Spain using three private helicopters.
Police said they confiscated 2.65-tons of hashish and 112-kg of marijuana during the arrest. Also, munitions, three helicopters and guns were taken from the smugglers.
Eleven suspects were arrested, while 9 others are believed hiding in France.
The drugs arriving in Spain were to be transported over land to France, according to the police.
After landing in Spain, the drugs were hidden in trucks and a motorcoach, all bearing false license plate numbers, that were to drive north into France.
Members of the French national police, as well as the EU'S law enforcement agency Europol, participated in the arrests, according to Spain's Civil Guard.
