Sixth-seeded David Goffin of Belgium lost in the second round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Thursday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Qualifier Jeremy Chardy of France knocked out Goffin with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) victory. The 34-year-old Chardy, ranked No. 64 in the world, advanced to the quarterfinals.
Another qualifier, Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, also advanced to the quarterfinals by virtue of a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain.
Second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece held on to move into the quarterfinal round. He outlasted Hubert Hurkacz of Poland for a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory.
American Tommy Paul also stayed alive, beating Alexander Bublik of Russia 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1, and Croatia's Borna Coric topped Serbia's Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-2.
Argentina Open
Top-seeded Diego Schwartzman of Germany cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Slovakia's Lukas Klein to reach the quarterfinals.
Sixth-seeded Pablo Andujar of Spain also advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Gianluca Mager of Italy.
Qualifiers Francisco Cerundolo of Germany and Jaume Munar of Spain each pulled off upsets to reach the quarterfinals. Cerundolo knocked off third-seeded Benoit Paire of France 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 while Munar earned a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over eighth-seeded American Frances Tiafoe.
