WASHINGTON, U.S. - The U.S. Secret Service said in a statement that an individual was taken into custody after attempting to jump over the White House pedestrian barrier.
The Secret Service, that has been dealing with several such cases in recent months, has said that the person was taken into custody after attempting to jump the barrier along the north side of the White House.
The agency said on Twitter at about 8 a.m. that someone had attempted to jump a row of metal bike racks along the Pennsylvania Avenue, that are being used to create a second row of fencing outside the executive mansion.
The racks were reportedly installed in response to a series of fence-jumping incidents in recent years, including a man who made it into the White House in 2014.
They added that post the incident, the area was briefly closed to pedestrian traffic.
However, a short time later, officials said that the stretch was reopened.
Officials also stated that President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time the incident occurred.
So far, the Secret Service has not revealed the individual’s identity or motive.
